It’s also spoilt by its great beaches up and down the coast. San Diego is known for its beach vibes surf culture, which contributes to this sense that it is a very laid-back place to live. The California surfer culture is strong in San Diego while Phoenix can lack character at times. Personally, I think San Diego wins in this category.
